Palm Beach, Gold Coast: Creekside Breakfast, Beach Time and Dinner

Palm Beach works well as a change of scene from Burleigh: a creekside breakfast and playground morning at its southern end, or a picnic opposite Burleigh headland at its northern end. Between them are the ocean beach and a dining stop worth returning for in the evening. Pick one end for a half-day; the two creeks are different destinations, not neighbouring swimming spots.
Start at the south end for breakfast and play
Dune Café is at 945 Gold Coast Highway, in Palm Beach Parklands overlooking Currumbin Creek. Its breakfast, lunch and takeaway options make it a practical anchor for a morning that includes both adults and children: sit down first, or collect something to take into the park.
The café currently lists takeaway coffee and cabinet treats from 6am to 3pm. The dine-in kitchen starts at 6:30am and closes at 2pm on weekdays or 2:30pm on weekends; Christmas Day is excluded. Those are useful distinctions if you are heading out early or arriving after lunch. Same-day bookings are by phone rather than online. Hours were checked on 9 September 2026.
Let the pirate playground be the attraction
Palm Beach Parklands has a pirate-ship playground. For a family, this gives the outing a purpose beyond carrying towels down to the water: children can play while the rest of the morning stays flexible. Bring a picnic blanket and leave time for a walk beside the creek after the playground.
Our suggested order is breakfast, play, then a shoreline stroll. This is the Palm Beach bank of Currumbin Creek. If your next booking is a lesson at Currumbin Alley, use the school’s meeting point rather than assuming the park is the lesson location. The water and beach can be enjoyed from land; swimming is a separate decision based on the marked patrol area and that day’s conditions.
Choose the northern end for a creek-and-headland view
At the other end of Palm Beach, Tallebudgera Creek faces Burleigh’s forested headland. This is the outing to choose when the group wants a picnic, photographs and time by the water rather than a playground-and-café combination. For a short visit, make this your destination rather than trying to fit both creeks into the morning. A useful holiday rhythm is to explore one today and save the other for a second day. That leaves room for a long breakfast or a change of plan if the weather turns.
Return for a mixed-menu dinner at The Collective
The Collective brings several kitchens into one dining venue, with downstairs greenery and a rooftop setting. It is a useful candidate when one person wants Italian food and another prefers an Asian or American-style option: compare the current menus together before choosing a table.
Some older listings describe a different kitchen line-up. The operator’s current site is the source to use for what is actually available. Treat this as a food-focused outing rather than expecting a beachfront table. For a group dinner, book the meal and seating area you want, and let the beach portion of the day stay informal. This is a researched suggestion, not a claim that we have eaten there.
Two ways to spend a half-day
With children: breakfast at Dune, time at the pirate playground and a creekside stroll. Pack dry clothes if you plan to use a patrolled swimming area, but make the park enough of an outing on its own. Return to your accommodation for a break rather than adding another major attraction.

Getting there and choosing a place to stay
For public transport, enter the actual destination—Dune Café, Palm Beach Parklands or Tallebudgera Creek—into the Translink journey planner. “Palm Beach” covers too much ground to be a useful arrival instruction. If driving, read the parking signs at the access point you use and allow room in the plan for finding a space.
