Which Gold Coast Theme Park? A Guide for a Burleigh Stay

By the ParadiseGrove editorial team · Last checked 9 September 2026

Roller-coaster track at a theme park

Choose Movie World for film-themed rides, Dreamworld for its mix of family attractions and coasters, Sea World for marine attractions alongside rides, or Wet’n’Wild for a day in the water. From Burleigh, make one park the day’s main event. Keep a beach day either side if you want time to enjoy Burleigh too.

Movie World: film worlds and coaster priorities

Movie World’s Wizard of Oz precinct adds a yellow-brick-road setting and themed coaster attractions to a park already associated with DC superheroes. The two coaster experiences are different: Kansas Twister races on paired tracks, while Flight of the Wicked Witch is a suspended coaster. The Emerald City and Yellow Brick Road make the setting part of the visit for Wizard of Oz fans.

Ask each person to choose two priority attractions before buying tickets. Then compare their height requirements and maintenance dates. For September visits, the maintenance schedule lists Flight of the Wicked Witch as closed from 21 July to 18 September 2026. Check your visit date before making it the reason for buying a ticket. A park with several headline coasters can still be the wrong purchase if the youngest traveller cannot ride the attractions the rest of the group wants.

Dreamworld: build the day around a mix of rides

Rivertown at Dreamworld includes Jungle Rush, a family coaster with a jungle-adventure setting. Nearby Murrissippi Motors takes riders through jungle scenery in expedition-style cars. That gives the area two distinct rhythms: coaster thrills and a slower scenic ride.

For a mixed-age group, map out where you would split up and meet again. Look at the current attraction list together and decide whether everyone has enough they want to do. Keep the comparison to attractions included in the ticket you are buying; neighbouring or separately sold experiences may have different admission rules.

Sea World: marine attractions and rides at Main Beach

The New Atlantis includes Leviathan, a wooden coaster, the spinning Vortex and the elevated Trident swing ride. Alongside the rides, the daily programme includes presentations and Nickelodeon character appearances. Choose this park if your group wants that combination rather than spending the entire day chasing coasters.

Plan around one or two presentations and fit rides between them. This makes more sense than repeatedly crossing the park to catch every scheduled event. Sea World is at Main Beach, so do not use directions for Movie World or the Oxenford motorway precinct.

Wet’n’Wild: choose it because you want a water day

Wet’n’Wild offers slides and pools, including H2Oasis and Wet’n’Wild Junior. The current ride list also includes the two-body-slide Super Ripper and the raft slide Double Barrel. Choose it when your group wants to spend the day in swimwear, alternating slides with pool time.

Compare the younger children’s areas with the rides your older children want, then review the attraction restrictions. Bring the right swimwear and check locker arrangements. If your group is more excited about the beach than slides, a local creek outing may suit the holiday better.

One day, several days or a multi-park pass?

For a short Burleigh stay, we would choose one park and keep another day for the headland, creek and town. A multi-park pass makes sense only if you have enough days and actually want the included parks. Read the named inclusions: Dreamworld is a separate operator from the Movie World, Sea World and Wet’n’Wild group.

Compare the total for your party, including transport, food, lockers and optional upgrades. Check which parks and consecutive or non-consecutive days the pass includes before comparing its price with a single-day ticket.

Getting there and keeping the day manageable

Use the Translink journey planner for the exact park and date, not simply “Gold Coast theme parks”. If driving, allow for the return journey before booking dinner in Burleigh. The northern parks require a separate outing; they are not beachside stops in town.

Check the operating calendar and maintenance list before payment. Choose priority rides, take a lunch break and leave room for a favourite repeat. Our family guide offers quieter days to put on either side of a park visit.
