Breakfast in Burleigh Heads: Paddock, Quest or Commune?

Start with the kind of morning you want. Paddock is the choice for a bakery visit you can linger over, Quest fits coffee and a light bite between James Street shops, and Commune starts early on the Gold Coast Highway. These three stops serve different plans; you do not need to cross Burleigh for breakfast if the right one is already near your accommodation.
Paddock Bakery: make breakfast part of the outing
Paddock Bakery is built around a restored house and garden, with a wood-fired oven assembled from reclaimed Australian bricks and doors salvaged from a Tasmanian bakery. Seating extends through the garden, cottage, loft and barn, so this is more than a coffee counter. Go here when the setting matters as much as getting fed: this is the stop to leave room for a bakery-counter browse rather than planning a quick coffee between appointments.
The address is 20 Hibiscus Haven, away from the James Street strip. Published hours are 6am–3pm daily, with the grill finishing at 2pm and coffee, toasties, pastries and bread available later. It is walk-in only. Our suggestion is to arrive earlier if you have a full day planned, or deliberately leave the morning loose so waiting for a table does not derail it.
For an apartment stay, take a loaf of wood-fired sourdough back for another morning. Browse the pastry display before settling on breakfast; the bakery is part of the reason to come here.
Quest Burleigh Café: the town-centre coffee stop
Quest at 20 James Street pairs coffee with house-baked cakes, toasties, salads and smaller breakfast items. Choose it when you want a lighter start before shopping or a headland walk, rather than treating breakfast as the main event.
Our suggested combination is coffee first, then James Street’s boutiques, finishing at the beachfront. If you prefer to walk before eating, do the headland first and return to town for a bite. Either way, you keep the outing centred on Burleigh instead of adding another transfer.
Commune: useful for an early start
Commune at 1844 Gold Coast Highway opens at 6am, with the kitchen operating 6:30am–2pm and the café closing at 3pm. At 6am you can start with coffee; arrive from 6:30am for the kitchen. Public-holiday hours are announced separately.
Its highway address suits visitors staying north of central Burleigh who would otherwise walk past breakfast to reach James Street. Start here before a foreshore outing, or use it as the meal stop on a quieter local day.
How to choose without overplanning breakfast
For a couple’s leisurely morning, we would favour Paddock’s bakery setting. For shopping with a coffee break, pick Quest. For an early departure, compare your route with Commune’s kitchen opening time.
